SUMMARY:StoryShare
DESCRIPTION:Cedarkirk’s story is the collection of stories held by the people who have built this place\, shaped this place\, and grown to call it home. After 50 years of ministry\, there are plenty of stories to share. The stories bind us together and allow us all to share in the big picture of Cedarkirk’s ministry. \nThat’s where you come in: we want to hear your stories! We want to hear them all – the funny ones and the ones that bring a tear to your eye. You can share about the ways Cedarkirk changed your life or just a vivid memory that really stands out in your mind. \nYou don’t have to be the world’s greatest speaker – we just want to hear your experience in your own words. (See the “Helpful Hints” section below to make your story the best it can be!) Our goal is to piece these stories together into a video about the way Cedarkirk has helped people draw closer to God and to one another over the last half-century. \nHow to participate: \n\nThink of a story or memory from your time at Cedarkirk.\nWrite it down or run through it a few times so it’s fresh in your head.\nRecord yourself (or have someone record you) telling the story.\nEmail the file to stories@cedarkirk.com. Include your name and a few sentences about your association with Cedarkirk (when you attended\, who you came with\, etc.).\n\nHelpful Hints: \n\nBe mindful of your pacing and speak slowly – many people speak too quickly on camera. If it feels a little slow to you\, it’s probably just right.\nEnunciate your words clearly. We won’t be able to share your story if we can’t understand what you’re saying!\nBe animated! The more excited and engaged you seem\, the better your story will translate to video.\nFeel free to write your story down\, but remember that you’ll be on video\, so you do need to look at the camera from time to time. (You can print some key words in large letters and post it next to your camera so it appears you’re looking straight at the screen. There are also free “teleprompter” apps you can download to your computer or smartphone so you can read and still look at the camera.)\nTry to avoid rambling and keep your video to a few minutes or less. We’ll do some editing\, but we’d love it if you could keep it brief.\nEnsure your background is exciting\, but not too distracting. (If you don’t want everyone seeing the unfolded laundry on your couch\, maybe step outside for a more natural setting.)\nIf you’re filming on a smartphone\, make sure you are filming horizontally\, with the phone turned sideways. We can’t use videos filmed vertically!\nDo a very quick test video to make sure you can be heard clearly and aren’t too far away from the microphone.\nHave fun! If you’re excited about your story the viewer will be\, too!

SUMMARY:Facelift for the 50th (January event)
DESCRIPTION:As we enter our 50th year of ministry\, we’d love to have your help sprucing up some things around camp! With limited guests on site these days\, it’s the perfect time to invite our friends out for some volunteering. \nEVENT DETAILS\nThese free Friday/Saturday events will give you and your family time for work and service to Cedarkirk\, as well as some activities and relaxation at your home away from home. We’ll begin Friday night with some outdoor\, distanced activities (e.g. campfire and line dance)\, followed by some time to unwind on your own or with your family. We’ll continue with breakfast on Saturday and then split into work groups for the day (with a break for lunch). If you’d like to join us for Saturday only\, that is fine\, too! \nWe have plenty of jobs for a variety of skill levels. Light construction\, painting\, roofing\, landscaping\, van washing\, and trail/brush trimming are some of the projects we’ll be tackling. (Jobs that don’t allow for adequate social distancing will be completed by family units.) \nLODGING & MEALS\nCedarkirk will provide complementary housing Friday night\, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. All participants will be housed in air-conditioned facilities\, with each individual or family unit housed apart from each other. Depending on how many volunteers are present\, meals will be served across one or both dining halls to ensure distancing of family units. \nWHO CAN COME?\nWe encourage all individuals and families who love Cedarkirk to join us for this event. Children of all ages are welcome as long as a guardian or parent can supervise young children while others work. Cedarkirk will not be providing childcare for this work weekend. \nOTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT THE “FACELIFT”\nIf you’re not available to join us but still want to pitch in\, you can help us lower the costs of the projects we have planned by sponsoring one. Click HERE to see a list of our projects and their price tags. You can adopt a project in full or with a partial gift. We are grateful for your support of these work weekends\, whether you come to volunteer\, send a gift\, or both! \nHOW TO REGISTER\nIf you and/or your family are interested in joining us\, please RSVP to Mark Orendorf at 813-685-4224 x4. We need to know the number of people in your family\, their ages\, which weekend you’d like to attend\, and get a sense of the skills you are bringing to the work weekend so that we can plan projects accordingly.
