Ready to take your leadership to the next level?

Counselor in Training (CIT) is a new, advanced leadership experience for students who have completed SHL and are ready for more responsibility, more independence, and more opportunities to lead.

You’ll learn through hands-on experience, training, teamwork, and mentorship from Cedarkirk’s leadership team.

Put Your Leadership Into Practice

CIT participants complete 30 hours of service working directly with campers. You’ll help lead activities, support camper groups, assist with Bible study and recreation, and work alongside experienced counselors.

You’ll also:

  • Shadow a camper cabin for at least one full day
  • Learn what it’s really like to be a camp counselor
  • Get hands-on training in outdoor activities such as the zip line and climbing wall
  • Receive CPR certification
  • Learn about communication, safety, teamwork, and working with younger campers
  • Spend time with Cedarkirk’s directors and leadership team learning what happens behind the scenes

You’ll still be a camper—with time for fun, friendships, and the Cedarkirk experience—but you’ll have more independence and responsibility than you did in SHL.

CIT is a selective program with only six spots available.

To apply, you must:

  • Have completed 11th or 12th grade
  • Have completed at least one SHL session at Cedarkirk
  • Complete the CIT application
  • Provide required references
  • Participate in an interview

Completing SHL makes you eligible to apply, but does not guarantee acceptance.

CIT isn’t about being a perfect leader. It’s about being willing to learn, take responsibility, accept feedback, and grow.

The skills you develop can serve you at Cedarkirk and far beyond—from school and jobs to college, community service, and future leadership opportunities.
